Holy Shit!!!!! Well, this 50m run is in the books. The weather was great – much better than expected. As for the run, the first 35m went well – after that, it SUCKED!! The one conclusion that I can draw from the run is that human beings are not made to run 100m (it is humanly impossible to do twice the distance that I did today) - that is just crazy. Don’t believe that any one has or can do it. By the way, the plantar fasciitis on the left foot is killing me – that definitely did not help the run, but it does not change my opinion that 100m is not possible.
I started off the day with a couple of pieces of toast made from homemade bread. Then a banana mid-morning and worked my way up to a burrito by early afternoon. So far, not too bad. In the evening, I ran to bridge (6m) where I had a couple of pieces of cheese and cracker and then moved to a slice of chocolate cake, a piece of cherry pie and finally a bag of jelly beans that I brought from home. Well . . . . as you might imagine, the run home after the bridge game was not too inspiring – it turns out that a pure sugar diet doesn’t really fuel your body for a run (who would have thought that to be the case??). By the time I got home (probably around 10:30), I was pretty hungry, so after getting a loaf of bread going, I went to the grocery store and got some provisions. Despite the high sugar diet (or perhaps because of it), I ended up with more than my fair share of sugar items (black jelly beans, Mike & Ike’s, crack cookies), but not to worry, I also bought some chips so that I could make nachos!! I settled down at the desk with nachos in hand and knocked out a few hours of work and all was good after a solid day of eating healthy.
It starts by biking to the office (only 2.5m, so not far enough to constitute a workout, but you have to get there somehow). It was a pretty busy day at the office so I was not able to get out for a run until later in the day – met Trygve at 4:30 for run. We ran up to and around Wash Park for a total distance of about 9m. I grabbed a burrito on my way back to the office and then finally finished up there around 8:30. I biked home and and I needed to get Elsie to the shop for some minor (I hope) electrical repairs. I had to jump start her to get her going and finally got on the road about 9:30. The shop is on Federal, south of Hampden and as I was on the way there, the car died at Santa Fe and Dartmouth. So, I called my support squad (Cameron) and he met me (in one of the other fleet vehicles) about 10:20 and we jumped the car and continued on to shop – it died once more before we go there, but we finally put her to bed about 10:40. Cameron dropped me off at Hampden and Federal and continued home from there. I set out on foot and had a good run home. As a matter of fact, I was feeling so good when I neared home that I deviated the route some to include a loop around Wash Park. Although I was tempted to do another loop, I decided that it was probably getting late and that I should just head home. Total mileage for the run was 7.25m and I walked in the door right at midnight. A pretty good day!!
P.S. For those of you who are wondering, no, I did not shower before going to bed. Hmmmm . . . . maybe that has something to do with why I can’t seem to keep a girlfriend.
The latest GU order has been placed and it surpasses the previous one order record set by the Bybee endurance team. That’s right, this order was for 8 24-pack boxes of GU enery gels (or stated another way, 192 individual gels). Your basic GU energy gel boasts the following nutrional (??) benefits:

Well . . . . .tonight I learned another one of those valuable lessons. Heading out for a run after meeting a friend for beers is probably not the best way to get in a training run. The 2 beer dinner did not really fill me up (since it was also my lunch, unless you count the three yoplait yogurts). However, on the bright side, by the time I was half way through the run, I was feeling better, even though I was not particularly inspired to pick up the pace by that point.
A new high in endurance lows. Over the past 24 hours, I have run 4 times for a total of 26 miles. I know, I know . . . nothing particularly special about that, even though one of those runs was at Mt. Falcon. Agreed. So, the cool (or perhaps disturbing) part is that I did not shower until after the last of the 4 runs. Needless to say, it wasn’t pretty.
Well . . . Cameron, Grant and I were sitting around after dinner and somehow we got on the topic of eating raw eggs. How some people eat them in protein drinks, etc. Yes . . . that’s right . . . . for those of you who follow the eating antics of the Bybee Boys, the next question posed by Cameron, was “How much will you give me to a eat a raw egg?” I dug around in my wallet and came up with $5 and Grant chipped in a $1 and with that the challenge was on. Below is the video of Cameron’s successful raw egg eating endeavor.

Monday (4/5) was the first stop on Straight No Chaser’s current tour and they kicked off the tour at the Boulder Theatre. Travis, Cameron, Grant and I were there to check out the show and we thoroughly enjoyed what we heard. Those boys can sing!!

This year’s Spring Break trip took us (Cameron, Grant and Charles) to the East Coast where we were visting colleges. We visited the following institutions of higher education:
- University of Pennsylvania
- Georgetown
- University of Maryland
- Johns Hopkins
- University of Virginia
- University of North Carolina
- Duke
We had a good time on the trip and suffered no travel mishaps. For now, the top three contenders (in no particular order) are Penn, Duke and Johns Hopkins.

The latest attempt at paella was Paella de Pimientos Asados Y Alcaparras (Roasted Bell Pepper Paella with Capers). It turned out pretty good, but as always there is room for improvement.
