Our apartment was not far from the Vatican (less than a mile), so we were in and around the Vatican area on numerous occassions. We went through the Vatican museum and St. Peter’s Basilica and did our best to avoid the people trying to sell us a tour. The line to the museum was pretty short and the holdup for St. Peter’s was getting through the metal detectors, but even that wasn’t too bad as long as you timed it correctly.
